Charlie May

What does your brand mean to you?
The freedom to experiment with fabrications, textures and fit to provide the perfect modern wardrobe

How important do you think social media and online marketing is these days in this industry?
It's important now more than ever. If you can establish yourself online and have a direct relationship with your customers, that's the best route to growth and success. It's also amazing that you can have immediate feedback on product and get a handle on what's working and evolving the best

Is there a particular type of person that your designs are made for? If so can you describe this person?
I suppose I design for myself firstly, but my inspirations rely with the friends I surround myself with. The way they mix street and high fashion is really fresh. Our target customer is really anyone from 25-45. It's quite ageless and timeless too

Who inspired you in the early days of developing Charlie May’s aesthetic? Was there any designers in particular that you admired whilst building your own unique style?
When I started out I was obsessed with Ann Demuelemeester and Haider Ackermann. Belgium design had a big influence, mixed with the traditional tailoring I'd grown up with

Where do you see Charlie May in the future?
We've just launched menswear which we're all so excited about, then I plan on launching a mini homewear collection for AW16. I want to be able to offer our customers everything and with our social media vein so lifestyle based in keen to move into the lifestyle brand territory and not strictly fashion
